Tajweed is the art of giving every letter its right: its exact sound, its weight, its length and its pause. Our online Quran classes with Tajweed teach each rule in simple English, then practice it in real verses until it becomes second nature. Lessons are live and one-to-one with a qualified male or female tutor, scheduled in your US time zone.
Scholars of recitation divide mistakes into two kinds. Lahn Jali, the clear mistake, changes a letter, a vowel or a word, and can change the meaning of a verse entirely; every Muslim who recites is asked to avoid it. Lahn Khafi, the hidden mistake, doesn't change the meaning but takes away the precision and beauty, such as a missing nasal sound or a rushed elongation.
Our online Quran classes with Tajweed tackle both. First, tutors eliminate clear mistakes so your recitation is correct. Then they refine the hidden ones so it becomes beautiful, the way the Quran was recited by the Prophet (peace be upon him) and passed down teacher to student ever since.
Every rule in our online Quran classes with Tajweed is taught in three steps: understand it, hear it, then apply it in verses you recite every day.
| Rule group | What it covers | You'll be able to |
|---|---|---|
| Makharij | The exit points of all Arabic letters | Pronounce every letter from its correct place |
| Sifaat | Letter qualities: heavy, light, whispered, echoing | Tell similar letters apart clearly |
| Noon Sakinah & Tanween | Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab, Ikhfa | Apply the four rules automatically |
| Meem Sakinah | Ikhfa Shafawi, Idgham Shafawi, Izhar Shafawi | Handle Meem correctly in every position |
| Ghunnah | The nasal sound and its length | Hold Noon and Meem Mushaddad properly |
| Madd | Natural and secondary elongations, 2 to 6 counts | Stretch vowels to the right length |
| Qalqalah & heavy letters | The echo in Qalqalah letters ق ط ب ج د; Tafkheem and Tarqeeq, including Ra and Lam | Give each letter its proper weight |
| Waqf & Ibtida | Where to stop, pause and restart | Keep the meaning intact while reciting |

Tajweed for Kids
Children who join online Quran classes with Tajweed early never have to unlearn bad habits. Our tutors teach kids with short examples, color-coded pages and lots of repetition, one rule at a time, so a nine-year-old can explain Ikhfa and apply it without thinking.
Most children begin Tajweed right after the Qaida, in 30-minute lessons three to five times a week. Parents can watch and see each rule appear in their child's recitation. Find the complete program for young learners on our online Quran classes for children and Quran classes for kids pages.
Adults who learned to read without Tajweed often have habits they don't even hear: a soft Qaf ق, a missing Ghunnah, a rushed Madd. In our private online Quran classes with Tajweed, nothing is embarrassing. Your tutor identifies each habit, explains the rule behind it and practices it with you until the correct sound feels natural.
Arabic speakers benefit too. Everyday dialects often change letters like Qaf ق, Tha ث and Dhad ض and skip rules such as Ghunnah and Madd. Our online Quran classes with Tajweed separate spoken Arabic from Quranic recitation so both stay correct.
Flexible timing makes it work for busy schedules; see our Quran classes for adults.
